It is said that we lose 50 to 100 hairs daily without noticing it which is not usually anything to worry about. Hair grows from the base of the hair follicle and at the rate of 1cm a month for 3 years. Growth then stops and the hair waits until it is pushed out by new growth.
When we notice excessive hair shedding it may be a sign of an underlying problem.
It can be upsetting and can cause more stress which may lead to further shedding. There are treatments that could help slow down shedding and encourage new hair growth.

What causes hair loss?
Excessive hair loss could be caused by:
Iron deficiency – there are lots of vitamins and minerals that play an important role in healthy hair. Iron is particularly essential as iron is required in the production of hemoglobin that carries oxygen to cells for growth and repair.
Hormones – Androgens are male hormones found in male and females. Imbalance of this hormone in the body could lead to shedding.
Illness or stress – stress can cause hair growth to stops. Once hair growth stops in their growth phase, they start to shed within a few months.
